Rose Building Services were employed under this contract for Currie and Brown to act as the Clients MEP Supervisor Engineer for two projects under the Procure 21 scheme.
- Emergency Department of Brighton & Sussex University Hospital
- Princess royal Hospital Haywards Heath
Our primary involvement was the responsibility for setting up the works and reviewing the quality of the installation, witnessing and signing off all completed services at commissioning and handover stages. Other challenges associated were the requirement to identify which areas were served by unknown services within the existing plantrooms, all prior to works being undertaken. These issues were resolved through organised surveys being carried out (using the Mechanical & electrical services contractor) and by utilising out of hours working during predicted quiet times in the Emergency department to carry out services change overs.
Both projects were very similar in the fact that both had four Operating Theatres to be refurbished (mainly the MEP Plant) of which we were instrumental in the replacement of five number air handling units and two chillers serving the Emergency Department of Brighton & Sussex University Hospital and an additional 4no AHU’s at the Princess Royal Hospital.
The plant in both healthcare facilities serves four operating theatres, and the works were carried out over four phases in order to keep three out of the four theatres operational at all times. With the theatres being adjacent to each other, great care had to be taken to ensure that any re-routing of existing mechanical and electrical services from other parts of the hospital were considered and maintained, and likewise any re-routed redundant services were removed safely without affecting the adjacent theatres.
