Tesco’s largest ever development at Woolwich where Rose Building Services were employed by the Main Contractor (Willmott Dixon) and were working on the MEP procurement, pre-construction and construction of this mixed use scheme featuring a superstore and housing.
The building comprises of 84,000sq/ft Tesco Store with 259 1-3 bedroom apartments in six separate blocks rising up 17 storeys.
As can be imagined there were many challenges this project offered, one being the incredible speed at which the design and build scheme was executed. The key for the services was to ensure that the main utilities were organised, planned and executed prior to the Olympic embargo (some of these were diverted from over a mile away).
The design and build presented a number of challenges also, one being the development of the Podium Platform Level on the roof of the store which allowed the services to distribute to each apartment block. No pipework was allowed to penetrate and route through into the Superstore area as nor were any concrete beams meaning this Podium was also taking the main structural loading of all residential tower blocks.
